Do You Want to be Found Online

“Do I Want to be Found Online?” is a question we must ask ourselves in this day in age. We attribute things we see online about someone directly to that person’s characteristics. Because of this, some people choose not to have an online presence or be easily found online. That’s okay. Sometimes, it is not always best to not have an online presence. These cases include if you are interviewing for jobs, if you are marketing yourself or your business, or if you are hoping to build a professional reputation for yourself. In all three of these instances, you’ll want to be found online.

If you don’t want to be found online, there are a few easy things you can do. First, you can adjust all privacy settings of your profiles. Do your best to keep your profiles private and hidden. Next, you can introduce yourself as something different than you’re known as online. Bradley D. Wilde could easily have profiles under the name “CakeMaster2” and no one would know it was him. You can also create duplicate accounts for someone that’s not necessarily you. Bradley D. Wilde could create profiles under “Brad Wilde”, “Bradley Wilde”, and “Brad D. Wilde”, without being guaranteed to be associated with those accounts directly.

Hiding your real-life contacts from your online presence might be simpler than you thought. But first, you have to answer the question of wanting to be found online or not.
